Profiles and accounts

A profile is one login of an agent program on your computer, for example your work Claude Code account and your personal one. remotxai calls it a profile. Each session runs under one profile.

On the computer, run:

Terminal window
remotxai profiles add work --harness claude-code --config-dir ~/.claude-profiles/work

--harness is claude-code, codex or pi. --config-dir is the folder where that login keeps its settings. Sign in to the agent program once with that folder, then the profile is ready.

Profiles also show in the app: open Computer settings and choose Profiles.

On the new-session screen, the Account group lists the profiles of the agent you picked. A folder can name its profile in a .remotxai-profile file. Then the app preselects it and tags it Folder.

Use this when one account hits its usage limit.

  1. Open the session menu and choose Switch profile.
  2. Pick the profile. Each row shows its usage reading when the agent reports one.
  3. Choose Switch.

The session keeps its conversation, and queued messages stay queued. The agent restarts under the new profile. If it does not start, the session goes back to the old one and nothing is lost.

A switch is refused while a turn is running or an approval is waiting. Answer or wait, then try again. On Codex, if the thread carries reasoning from the other account, the provider may refuse the first reply. Switch back if it does.

From a terminal:

Terminal window
remotxai sessions switch-profile <session-id> work

If a switch stops halfway, the session is locked until an admin device chooses Clear recovery flag or you run remotxai sessions clear-switch-recovery <session-id>. Check which account is running first.
